4pm Break EP [TSA015]

Grenoble-based Vici, whose reputation as an incredible technician and peerless selector has skyrocketed his name to the forefront of the French drum and bass sound, lands on Transparent Audio with a vibe-centric two-tracker. Accompanied by a remix from Critical Music's Cauzer, who showcases a mesmerizingly melodic side that has been previously undisplayed in her back catalogue of music, the '4pm Break' EP is a body of work that'll make for superb listening at home and on the dancefloor alike.

A true lesson in idiosyncratic drum and bass production, Vici's debut on Transparent Audio is defined by an aura of unpredictable and transfixing sound design that'll keep you hooked from the first second to the last. The headline track, '4 pm Break', encapsulates what Vici is all about, with razor-tight production, melodic sound design, and unique sampling at the core of the track.

Flipping over to the B-side, 'Before All That' provides a frenzy of uplifting atmospheres, snappy drum hits, and a collation of contrasting bass patches that juxtapose themselves between pure grit and reverb-soaked sounds. Cardiff-based producer Cauzer also adds her own original spin on the track, extracting all the goodness of the original whilst intertwining her own underground twist on the song.

"For this specific release, my approach was to make vibes before everything. I love all kinds of drum & bass. Sometimes, I really love to make something vibey and not too heavy! - Vici

An incredible technician and peerless selector, Grenoble-based Vici has become an undeniable asset when it comes to destroying any dancefloor. Whether it be through spotless selections or his own eclectic pool of productions, the French drum and bass specialist is one of the leading lights in a country abundant with future 170BPM-based stars. Vici was only 9 years old when he got absorbed into the world of drum & bass, with his metal roots engrossing him when he first discovered the sonics of the legendary Pendulum. From this moment, he has never looked back, and in just a few short years, he's become one of the most exciting up and comers on the French drum & bass circuit. Having now released music on Skankandbass, In The Lab Recordings, Delta9, Drum Army, Hyperactivity Music, Kosen Production, Impact Music, Nuusic, and Red Light Records, Vici is fully focused on fine-tuning the intricate sound design and vibe-centric approach to music that is making his unique strain of drum and bass so instantly recognisable.

Firmly at the forefront of Wales’s booming drum and bass scene, Cardiff-based Cauzer has cemented a sleek, dark, and underground sound that is truly unique to herself. Although only at the dawn of her musical journey, she has already landed on imprints such as Critical Music, Overview, and Soulvent Records, underlining the aura of boundless potential that surrounds the artist's blossoming career. Growing up in Cardiff, Cauzer found herself listening to a wide range of electronic music, with these years inspiring her to start pursuing her own venture into the world of DJing and music production. Now with crunchy drums, idiosyncratic sound design, eerie tension, and hints of melody at the heart of her creations, it’s through her modern, forward-thinking, and versatile strain of music that Cauzer aims to evoke feelings of varying emotions within her listeners. With support from UKF, D&BArena, Noisia, and Rene LaVice, as well as recently signing to Earth Agency, Cauzer is now fully focused on exploring the depths of her experimental drum and bass sound.
